A government motion authorising financial transactions of up to $197.4 million and including a $47 million borrowing figure will be brought to the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday.
In the House yesterday, Financial Secretary Kenneth Jefferson successfully moved the suspension of standing orders to allow the government motion to be brought.
The motion is to allow the government to carry on with necessary expenditure before an Appropriation Bill is brought forward.
Members will be able to debate the motion, which has a schedule of expenditure attached to it; but the procedure should mean there will not be the same lengthy and detailed examination as there would be in Finance Committee.
Mr. Jefferson told the House that the normal budget-preparation process had been disrupted by Hurricane Ivan and further complicated by the timing of Cayman’s general election.
Mr. Jefferson explained that he was seeking the suspension of standing orders because, rather than provide five days notice of the motion before the present June sitting of the House, he intended to provide the five-day notice within the sitting period.
The Legislative Assembly was told that the expenditure resolution covered the period from 1 July to 31 July 2005.
The House was adjourned until Monday morning.
