There is a twinge of excitement in the business community this week.
The Chamber of Commerce Business Expo gets under way with Business after Hours at the Lions Centre for Chamber members and invited guests.
The public will get a chance to see what the country’s business community has to offer Friday and Saturday.
While Business Expos in the past have been an important part of commerce in the Cayman Islands, special notice should be taken of this one.
It will be the first time in two years that Chamber businesses have been able to come together under one roof to showcase their wares and offers.
The Expos provide the perfect opportunity to meet new customers and reconnect with existing customers.
Those who exhibit their goods and services will be offering discounts, contracts and will distribute promotional material.
Those who take advantage of the three-day event will be surprised at some of the things they can find right here in Grand Cayman.
The Expo should be an opportunity for shoppers to realize they don’t always have to go off island to do their shopping.
It’s always important to make purchases here in the Cayman Islands to help bolster the local economy.
But that practice is even more important now as the Cayman Islands recover from the ravages of Hurricane Ivan more than a year ago.
We’ve come a long way since 11-12 September 2004 and we have in a large part the business community to thank for that.
The cost of buying goods in the Cayman Islands will always cost more than buying items in the United States because everything here is important, but if everyone in Cayman makes a commitment to keep as much of his or her money as possible here, it may be that we can all help each other stabilize those prices or even bring them down.
A good start is by showing your support for the business community and attending the Chamber of Commerce’s 2005 Annual Business Expo Friday and Saturday, or Thursday if you are a Chamber member or invited guest.
Go, learn and see what businesses in the Cayman Islands have to offer.
You will more than likely be pleasantly surprised.
