The Pink Ladies Volunteer Corps celebrated its 25th anniversary with a dinner at the Wharf Restaurant, Saturday, 15 October.
Olive Miller, co-founder of the Pink Ladies, offered a history of the group to the approximately 110 people who attended the celebration.
She spoke of the various organisations that the Pink Ladies have helped over the years, including The Lighthouse School, Cayman Islands HospiceCare and the Cayman Islands Cancer Society, and outlined fundraising efforts.
‘For the past five years, our donations have totalled CI$315,286.98, a magnificent sum by anybody’s standards, to say nothing of the previous 20 years,’ she said.
Julia Kandiah, co-director of the Pink Ladies, looked to the future in her address and spoke of the need to modernise the organisation and update its image. She suggested three areas which should be considered – uniform, the name of the group and the methods of recruitment.
In addition, Judy Massie was honoured as Pink Lady of the Year.
