Although England are the clear favourites in Pool B, there is likely to be much more competition for the second quarter final slot than in Pool A.
“I think England will win that pool, and then really it’s going to be between Argentina and Scotland for that second place,” said Richard Adams.
England and Argentina both performed very well in France during the 2007 Rugby World Cup, taking the runner-up and third place positions respectively.
Argentina is known for their strong forwards and combined with very talented backs they can be a tough team to defeat, with Mr. Adams believing the Argentineans have the best chance of progressing to the next round behind England.
“They’re a rugged team, they spoil everything, they slow things down, and they speed up their own ball so they are very difficult to play against,” he said.
As for Scotland, if they can find their form in time, they could sneak into the quarters over Argentina.
“They do need the moment of brilliance. The question is whether Dan Parks will step up, he’s had a long break, he’s making his comeback, if he comes back and plays on top form it will make a massive difference to Scotland’s game. That’s going to be huge,” said Mr. Adams.
Although play will be tighter in Pool B than in Pool A, Adams does not expect to see much of a challenge coming from Georgia and Romania, with neither country being a traditional rugby nation.
