Red-hot talent at gala

A few hundred people attended the Red, Gold and Soul gala dinner dance Saturday, 10 September, at the Westin Casuarina Resort and Spa to mark the 50th anniversary of the Cayman Islands Red Cross.

At the fundraising event, party-goers enjoyed a gourmet three-course meal as well as professional entertainment and the chance to win prizes. Emceed by Vicki Wheaton and hosted by primary sponsor Royal Bank of Canada, the event featured a tribute act covering music by some of the legendary ladies of soul – Tina Turner, Donna Summer and The Supremes.

The gala, one of two primary fundraisers conducted by the local relief organisation during its A September to Remember donation campaign, was held the weekend after the 14th annual Cayman Islands Red Cross charity golf tournament. Professional golfers Nick Price and Mark McNulty joined more than 200 golfers on 2-3 September at North Sound Club in Grand Cayman to play three separate rounds of nine holes apiece.

Proceeds from the golf tournament and the gala will go toward funding local Red Cross programmes, including disaster preparation and management, HIV/AIDS education, first aid training and the Red Cross Thrift Shop.
