Phil pushes Buccaneers into first

The Krys Global Buccaneers are in prime position to nab rugby props.

The second leg of the 2011 A.R. Scott 10’s tournament was recently played at the South Sound Rugby ground under the keen eye of match day officials Alasdair Robertson, Nick Fox and Nicky White.

Krys Global clobbered the John Doak Iguanas 41-7 and the DHL Storm 29-5 before losing a tough one to the Ecay Pig Trotters 21-17. The Bucs showed flashes of brilliance with runs from Phil O’Connor and had a positive showing from speedster Keswick Wright. In the Storm match, young flyers Joel Clarke and Darrien Montague were difference makers.

For the Bucs their strongest showing was a thrashing of the hapless Iguanas. The Bucs, knowing that a league this tight could be decided on points difference, piled on the points against the Iguanas. However, to salvage some dignity, the Iguanas assured a try of their own.

The Iguanas, once again suffering from a lack of numbers, started brightly against the Storm. They looked early in the second half of the game to be heading towards an upset before the Storm settled down and ran in the points to secure the 22-14 win.

DHL could not continue their form from the Iguanas game against the Buccaneers and suffered a hammering. The early stages of the game were a seesaw affair with neither team being able to secure points but the addition of young flyers Joel Clarke and Darrien Montague made the difference for the men in white to undo their loss to the Pigs Trotters in the opening game.

The Iguanas could not continue their earlier form against the Pigs Trotters as some loose tackling in the middle of the park allowed for easy tries for the Trotters. The 19-0 win was a routine affair for the men in red as the Iguanas could not find their way onto the score sheet.

In the upset of the day DHL Storm overcame the Pigs Trotters 26-19 in an exciting game which kept the Buccaneers at the top of the table after two tournaments. The Pigs were caught napping against the Storm and expected an easy win but the DHL Storm determination saw out the result.
