Marcus will be honoured now

The national sport of the Cayman Islands will kick against crime.

The first annual family fun day in memory of Marcus Ebanks takes place this Saturday, 1 October. At the heart of the festivities is a ‘Kicking against gun violence’ mini-football tournament at the Smith Road cricket Oval in George Town.

Saturday’s gathering honours the life of Marcus Ebanks, a West Bay resident who was gunned down in July 2009. He was 20-years-old at the time. A number of sporting personalities will be speakers at the event including Minister of Sports Mark Scotland, Director of Sports Collin Anglin and community figure Felix Manzanares.

For the record the fun day starts from 11am and has free admission. A dunking tank, bouncing castle and face painting are among the offerings for the day. A number of prizes are also listed including $2,000 cash, a flat-screen TV and a laptop.

Part of the proceeds go to the C.A.Y.S Foundation. For more information call 928-1273 or 927-2709
