GT must fight through injuries

The top flight for football in the Cayman Islands braces for another weekend of action.

The Cayman Islands Football Association launches week three of the 2011-2012 Cayman Premier League. Matches take place this Sunday, 2 October at two venues. At the Ed Bush field in West Bay, Future tackles Tigers at 5pm with Scholars International facing Elite at 7pm. At the TE McField Sports Centre (i.e. the Annex) field in George Town, Bodden Town battle George Town at 5pm with Cayman Athletic and Roma United squaring off at 7pm.

George Town will be a team under heavy duress with Metchie Williams and Justin Pierre both nursing injuries and questionable for their game. George Town want to get back to winning ways as they welcome defender Paul Smith to the starting line up after he missed the clash with Scholars last weekend. However Bodden Town are sitting comfortably in third after a 2-1 win over Cayman Athletic.

This must-see game features current champions Elite and a much improved Scholars team. The contest will showcase some of Cayman’s most clinical attacking talent. Elite’s Dwayne Wright and Scholar’s Carson Fagan have both had great starts with three goals a piece in the opening two games. Mark Ebanks will be suspended for Scholars following the red card he received against George Town last week.

Meanwhile a young Cayman Athletic team will be looking to gain ground as they currently sit bottom with two consecutive losses after two games. They will face a strong test in Roma, who have come out of the traps flying this season with two wins and are the only team in the Premier League yet to concede a goal.

For Future and Tigers, both teams are still looking to get a win this season. Future are coming off two consecutive losses whilst Tigers have only managed to gain a point in their first two games.

All matches see a modest $5 entry fee. Next week the Cayman Premier League will take a break from action as the national programme takes centre stage with two 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying games. Friday, 7 October, sees Suriname visiting Grand Cayman to play at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex at 7.30pm. The following Tuesday Cayman travels to San Salvador as they take on El Salvador.
