Coutts
RBS Coutts, the wealth division of Royal Bank of Scotland, has rebranded to Coutts. The change, intended to bring consistency to the firm’s international client base by operating under a single brand, took effect on 1 November.The move aligns the international private banking business and the UK business of Coutts under a single brand and aims to support the growth of the international business. David Foster, managing director of Coutts & Co (Cayman) Limited, said, “Our move to one, unified brand will bring about a sense of consistency and simplicity to our international clients, who today represent around 40 per cent of Coutts’ total business. Coutts has a heritage which goes back over three hundred years and this resonates with our clients who look to us as a long-term wealth management partner, with the experience and ability to help them navigate through good times as well as bad.”
Cayman Islands Brewery
Cayman Islands Brewery’s newest beer White Tip Lager finished in first place in the Lager/Pilsner category of the Caribbean Rum and Beer CAB Awards held in Barbados on 28 October. Cayman Islands Brewery’s CayLight finished second in the overall category and the brewery’s Ironshore Bock also placed second in the Strong Beer category.
Energy
On 15 October, Colleen Brummer from Pilates and Fitness studio Energy hosted the fifth annual Pilates for Pink event at The Arc in Camana Bay. Also sponsored by Butterfield Bank and Genesis Trust, the event attracted 165 participants for the first Cardio-Kick Pilates Class. Women of all ages attended, wearing pink in honour of breast cancer awareness raised $5,500 for the Cayman Islands Cancer Society. Betty Ann Duty, chairperson of the Cancer Society, said, ”We are delighted to once again receive all the funds collected from the Pilates for Pink event which Colleen at Energy graciously organised for the fifth year. The society is grateful for the community support we receive, which allows us to give back to the community through our own awareness programs, financial assistance, screening voucher programs, and many other initiatives which we simply could not do without the support of individuals and businesses like Colleen and Energy.”
Harneys
Harneys Cayman is helping a local primary school encourage reading among its students. The firm made a cash donation to Prospect Primary School on Grand Cayman and will follow up at the end of the month with a donation of books. The funds will be used to purchase books, and the books will distributed as prizes in various reading and other competitions at the school.
In other news, Harneys has added private equity specialist Natalie Bell to its investment funds team in the British Virgin Islands. She advises in the establishment and restructuring of investment funds. Prior to joining Harneys, Ms Bell was an associate in the Private Equity Group at Travers Smith LLP in London where she specialised in UK and international private equity, acting for institutional investors, investee companies and management teams on investments and divestments.
Higgs & Johnson
Sarah Bolton has joined the Cayman Island’s office of Higgs & Johnson as head of funds. She has almost 20 years of commercial legal experience focusing on all aspects of the set-up, launch and restructuring of investment funds and private equity funds. Prior to joining Higgs & Johnson, she worked in the Cayman Islands for more than 10 years for Ogier (formerly Boxalls) and most recently as counsel for Appleby.
Appleby
Appleby’s Funds has hired senior associate Matthew Taber. He will be part of the firm’s investment services team that includes Bryan Hunter, Sabrina Leacock and Richard Addlestone. Mr Taber, previously a senior associate at Walkers, has returned to Cayman to join Appleby. He has extensive experience in all aspects of structuring, formation and regulation of hedge funds and private equity funds. His clients have included some of the largest hedge fund managers in the United States and Brazil.

Investment firm Cedrus Investments announced its annual global investor conference will be held on 16-17 May, 2012, in Hong Kong. The invitation-only conference will bring together a diverse, international pool of investors and chief executives of the leading companies in the natural resources, energy and health care industries. Institutional investors, venture capitalists, private equity firms, sophisticated private investors and industry executives will be among those invited.

Scotiabank recently donated $1,500 to the Lions Club of Tropical Gardens, becoming a bronze sponsor for the club’s annual Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign. The breast cancer awareness campaign continues to have a positive impact on lives in the Cayman Islands. More than 52,000 persons have benefited from our educational programmes. More than 7,500 mammogram vouchers, sponsored by our club, have enabled women to proactively assess their breast health while more than 250 individuals have been assisted with health care-related costs, both at home and abroad.
