Sponsors excited by Pirates Week

Pirates Week could not happen without the support and input of its sponsors and here’s what they have to say about the excitement to come.

SaxonMG – title sponsors

“We are absolutely thrilled to be Title Sponsor of Pirates Week Festival 2011. Our involvement connects the dots between SaxonMG being a wholly owned Caymanian company and our country’s history and heritage,” says Brian Williams.

“Pirates Week Festival has been an Island tradition for 34 years. Title Sponsorship became available and we jumped on the opportunity to support this Island tradition, contribute to its success and take it to new heights for 2011.

“Our participation with Pirates Week Festival has already been fun and rewarding. We enjoyed participation with the districts’ and Cayman Brac fundraiser events, connecting with Caymanians and ensuring we listen and learn what is important from their auto insurance company. We look forward to all the events and activities during Pirates Week Festival and particularly the District Heritage Days where we have the opportunity to further build relationships with the Caymanian people across the Island.

“SaxonMG is pleased to partner with Pirates Week Festival and by extension, the Caymanian people. We look forward to revolutionising the industry in the Cayman Islands as we deliver insurance you want.”

Premier McKeeva Bush:

“Pirates Week was conceptualised some 34 years ago as an attraction that would draw visitors to Cayman during the off peak season. Over the years the Festival has grown and as a cultural event, continues to appeal to both residents and visitors alike.

“The infusion of new ideas by the current Pirates Week Director Mr. Bernie Bush has helped to reinvigorate the festival and it is anticipated that these creative new initiatives will encourage more travellers to visit the Cayman Islands to observe or participate in the myriad of activities offered, whilst providing repeat visitors with original experiences to enjoy. One such idea that has come to fruition is development of relationships with pirate krewes that are actually within our target demographic and who travel internationally to pirates festivals.”

Cayman Islands Department of Tourism

As a sponsor of the event, the Department of Tourism works closely with the festival organisers and assists with the promotion of special travel packages, said Acting Director of Tourism Shomari Scott. These deals enable visitors to take advantage of the thrilling cultural experiences offered, while benefiting from substantial savings at the same time.

“With more than 40 family-friendly events – including live music performances, street games, parades, sports competitions, fireworks, costumes, and an abundance of other activities – all being offered during Pirates Week, it is difficult to pick just one favourite. However, I am particularly pleased that from a cultural aspect, through the continued development of the District Heritage Days, Cayman is able to share many aspects of our rich history and culture with visitors and even our younger generation.

“To help maintain the momentum and energy of Pirates Week and introduce our Pirates Week Festival to a new audience, the Department of Tourism will be hosting an event at the upcoming Gasparilla Tampa Bay Parade, which takes place on 28 January, 2012.”

Caymanian Compass

The Caymanian Compass is a long standing partner and sponsor of Pirates Week, Cayman’s National Festival, explained Marketing Supervisor Anne Mason.

“Over the years we have supported the excellent Pirates Week through coverage through many of our printed products including the Caymanian Compass, Journal, What’s Hot magazine and Key to Cayman and online on caycompass.com, Facebook and Twitter. It’s great that we live in a world which has so many ways for people to find information about the festival and that we are able to provide the support the excellent event deserves.

“We once again cannot wait for this year’s festival to start so we can share with our readers all the great stories and photos over the next two weeks from fireworks, contests and float parades to our glorious Heritage Days in our lovely districts. Cayman is a special place and we are proud to be a central part of spreading the word about our wonderful shores – and our family-friendly festival!”

Cayman Airways

Cayman Airways is proud to be a sponsor of the 34th Annual Pirates Week Festival and especially proud to provide service to Grand Cayman for those attending the cultural extravaganza. Pirates Week brings with it a Caymanian presentation of local cuisine, local talent, sporting events, float parades and community pride and as the national flag carrier of the Cayman Islands as we anticipate another successful event.

“As a sponsor of Pirates Week, Cayman Airways looks forward to sharing the local cuisine, music and culture of the Cayman Islands with visitors to the Island. It is a chance for tourists and locals alike to fall in love with our island paradise and experience the best of what Cayman has to offer,” said Olivia Scott Ramirez.

“Cayman Airways is in full support of the preservation of the marine life that surrounds the Cayman Islands and thus the theme of this year’s Pirates Week float parade. People fly from all over the world to take in the natural beauty of the ocean’s here and it is crucial that we protect and preserve the natural wonders that border our three islands. We are happy to support an event that aims to bring together the community and also raise awareness for protecting the environment.”

Cayman 27

The Pirates Week Festival is a favourite assignment of the Cayman 27 news crew because reporters get to break out of their shells and channel their inner pirates. This year Tammi Sulliman, John Foster and Kevin Morales will host a live broadcast from the Pirates Landing Pageant and Float Parade Saturday November 12th from 3pm. Rumour has it, the team is expecting a guest Buccaneer commentator-hmmm. With the combination of pirates, special effects, and live TV – you never know what will happen.

Cayman 27’s Production Supervisor Anita Smith says, “This assignment is fun because the one thing you can count on is that anything goes and we have to be ready to go with it.” Cayman 27 News will also have daily reports from the District Heritage Days and Daybreak will be live November 11th from the North Terminal for a preview of festival events. We also are a longtime sponsor of the Children’s Fun Fair Day, which is a great way for the littlest pirates to enjoy the festivities.

Radio Cayman

Radio Cayman airs live commentary on the Pirates Landing Festivities and the float parade, which follows the landing. The regular outside broadcast crew of Jay Ehrhart, Susan Watson, Kathy Miller, Nikolai Hill, Paul Akal and Paul Dedrick always look forward to the Pirates Landing, which is a time when young and old indulge in the mythical and Radio Cayman’s outside broadcast crew paint an oral picture of the event, for those listeners who are unable to attend. The station also educates listeners about the Island’s culture, by conducting interviews with district committee representatives regarding the Heritage Days and on some occasions Radio Cayman provides live coverage from the districts.

Radio Cayman will continue to support the Pirates Week activities, which is a worthwhile event, filled with fun for the whole family, especially the District Heritage Days. The station’s Deputy Director (Marketing & Promotions) Paulette Conolly-Bailey commented, “We would encourage all residents to support the district committees because they do a fantastic job when it comes to promoting the history of the districts and allowing attendees a glimpse into the past.“ Radio Cayman wishes the organising committee much success for this year’s festival.
