Triathlons are getting more popular by the year the world over and that especially applies to the Cayman Islands where many are enticed into the three disciplines thanks to the excellent resources here.
A family friendly event for the Queen’s Birthday holiday is scheduled in what is billed as Try-this-Tri, sponsored by Solomon Harris. The fact that the kids do not have to swim in the open water, dodge vehicles on the road when cycling nor have to be in fear of road traffic when running makes it a perfect introduction for youngsters.
It is on this Sunday, 13 June and is intended to be a fun and only mildly challenging event. There are four elements, which are the sprint tri, super sprint tri, kids tri and tykes dash.
After pool laps, athletes will exit to the transition area in the parking lot and then crank the bike leg and finish with the run course.
Adult bikers in the sprint event go from Camana Bay doing loops northward on the by-pass and back on West Bay Road, followed by a run through Camana Bay and the Paseo and its lovely shops. Kids, 17 and under, will race entirely on Camana Bay property, ensuring a safe and scenic race for all. Teams are welcome.
Draw prizes and food are featured for everyone. Kids’ events are free.
Adults are welcome to make donations in support of the sponsor, Solomon Harris’ charities. It is limited to 200 participants.
Registration is on 10 June from 4-6pm) and 11 June from 8-10am at Cafe del Sol in Camana Bay.
