Brac Surf and Turf event postponed

The Cayman Islands WaterCraft Association in conjunction with the Cayman Islands Boxing Association, the Cayman Islands Cycling Association and the Riderz Associations has made the decision to postpone the 2021 hosting of the evolved Brac Surf and Turf event that was slated to happen on the long weekend in November 2021.

This unfortunate decision has come as a result of the recent Covid community outbreaks in Grand Cayman and noting the population demographic of Cayman Brac; the new regulations make the staging of each event quite difficult. The goal of the weekend is to create a new outlet for the individual Sporting events as well as boosting the local tourism economy with the Brac community.

The “Brac Sports Weekend” – as dubbed by the group of associations led by Chris Bodden, Ventisha Conolly, Darrell Evans Jr., Leyla Jackson, Vance Ramgeet, Chevala Burke and Taylor Foster are eagerly looking into the first quarter of 2022 to set a date and announce in short order.

“We extend our thanks to the Sponsors that have already come on board for the Brac Sports Weekend, namely The Ministries of Tourism and Transport, District Administration and Lands and Youth, Sports, Culture and Heritage their respective Ministers along with Car City for their continued support of this event and the desire of the group to expand and now include youth boxing, cycling and a 5k run/walk”, said Chris Bodden.

This event has become a staple on the Brac Calendar and committee members Chevala Burke and Ventisha Conolly concurred “that having worked with this group from the event’s inception in 2017, the desire is to keep it on the calendar as the economic value it adds to Cayman Brac is on par with events like the Agriculture Show and Braccanal and as well as its enjoyment by many Brackers young and old.”
