As part of its ongoing commitment towards the development of and providing opportunities for young people on Grand Cayman, CUC annually welcomes high school and college students to its annual Summer Internship and Vocational Programmes.

Started in 2000, CUC has welcomed over 300 students through the Summer Internship and Vocational Programmes. The programmes continue to expose young people to different career opportunities to gain experience in a professional setting along with valuable hands-on training.

In addition to the valuable work experience, students also participate in a number of weekly ‘Lunch and Learn’ sessions, which includes discussions on budgeting, resume writing and acceptable business etiquette.

Caribbean Utilities Company, Ltd. (CUC) currently has over 230 employees, 93% of whom are Caymanian, and is structured in four divisions: Executive, Finance & Corporate Services, Operations, Customer Service & Technology.

Operations

CUC relies upon diesel generation to produce electricity for Grand Cayman.

Our Licence

CUC operates the only public electrical utility in Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands.

On April 3, 2008, CUC entered into new Generation and Transmission & Distribution Licences with the Government of the Cayman Islands.

Prior to April 3, 2008, CUC operated pursuant to a 25-year exclusive Licence with the Government of the Cayman Islands under the provisions of Section 6 of The Cayman Islands Electricity Law 1974, originally dated May 10, 1966, amended November 1, 1979 and renewed for a further 25 years on January 17, 1986.

Environment

CUC was first registered to the ISO 14001 environmental standard in 2004, the first and only organisation in the Cayman Islands to achieve this third-party registration. In 2018 the Company achieved registration to the ISO 14001:2015 standard by demonstrating our commitment to the standard’s requirements and our Environmental Policy.
