Three new COVID cases have been reported at a nursing home on Cayman Brac.
One of the patients is receiving treatment in hospital while the other two are currently asymptomatic, Public Health reported Tuesday night.
The patient is in stable condition and is not expected to require transfer to Grand Cayman, according to a government statement.
All staff and residents are being tested for the virus to determine how widespread the outbreak could be.
The news came as overall COVID numbers continued to drop.
There were just 34 new positive cases reported across the islands on Monday and 19 on Sunday. There are now 945 active cases in the Cayman Islands, down from more than 6,000 at the height of the outbreak. Ten people are in hospital for COVID-related causes.
The three cases on the Brac are potentially more concerning because they impact older people at the Kirkconnell Community Care Centre.
One patients is at Faith Hospital while the other two have been isolated at the care centre ‘annex’ where they will be cared for by nursing staff until they test negative.
All three patients had been fully vaccinated and boosted.
Director of Sister Islands Medical Services, Dr. Srirangan Velusamy, said that Public Health staff have done a thorough inspection of the care centre facilities to ensure the patients will have the resources necessary for their care.
“We are continuing to restrict visitors to the care facilities as we seek to manage the current infections and prevent additional ones,” he said.
“While we don’t want the public to be alarmed, we ask that residents of, and visitors to the Sister Islands remain vigilant, and follow public health guidelines.”
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Samuel Williams-Rodriguez said public health would assist staff on the Brac to avoid additional exposure for residents and caregivers.
