Orange You Glad gala successful night for Meals on Wheels

Orange is the colour of the evening for the Meals on Wheels fundraising gala.

Cayman Islands Meals on Wheels transformed Grand Old House with hues of orange at its annual fundraising gala on 7 May.

The Orange You Glad event, organised by the charity and worked by volunteers, featured a number of moneymaking initiatives such as a raffle, live auction, monarch butterfly prize wall, ‘Dine ‘n’ Dash’ certificates, and the ‘Super Silent Auction’ where a whiteboard kept a running total of bids.

Prizes for the live auction included jewellery from Balaclava, dinner for 10 with Governor Martyn Roper and Elisabeth Roper at Government House, and a luxury stay at the Rum Point Club Residences.

The ASK HER band table enjoyed the evening.

Of course, the night would not have been complete with the reveal of the final item – the very jacket that chairman of Meals on Wheels, Rob Imparato was sporting. In the past, Imparato has gone full orange from head to toe – shoes included. This year, however, he wore a patterned ensemble that encouraged feverish bidding from two guests, with his father, Joe Imparato, winning after some spirited volleying.

All-female band ASK HER played throughout the evening, after saxophonist Devon Edie opened the event with some smooth vibes.

Although a fun time was had by all, there was an important point raised by both general manager of Meals on Wheels, Jennifer West, and Rob Imparato. They talked about how the worldwide rise in food prices made their service more expensive, yet more vital than ever. They encouraged all guests to be as generous as possible, and consider being long-term supporters of the non-profit.
