Gold medallist swimmer Jordan Crooks will be flying back to Cayman Monday to a hero’s welcome.
Minister for Youth, Sports, Culture and Heritage Bernie Bush and other supporters will be on hand to greet the World 50-metre freestyle champion when he arrives home from Australia at Owen Roberts International Airport at 1:06pm Monday, 19 Dec.
Crooks won gold at the FINA World Swimming Championships in Melbourne on Saturday, becoming Cayman’s first world champion in any sport.
A reception to honour Crooks will also be held at Heroes Square on Wednesday, 21 Dec. from 5:30pm to 7.30pm.
That event will be attended by members of the public, as well as Governor Martyn Roper, Premier Wayne Panton, Deputy Governor Franz Manderson, elected officials and senior government officials.
Speaking with the Compass following his historic win on Saturday, Crooks said, “To all my supporters back home, thank you. It means a lot, and I am eternally grateful for the support. It’s hard to put into words but I look forward to seeing my people back home.”
When he arrives, it will be a chance for his supporters to thank him for doing Cayman proud.
