Cosmetology Hygiene & Safety training now available

Grand Cayman, 2 February, 2023– The Department of Environmental Health (DEH) will be conducting a series of Cosmetology Hygiene and Safety training sessions for employees in the industry, as District Sanitation Officers strengthen their surveillance & enforcement programmes across the Cayman Islands.

“Business owners and personnel in the cosmetology industry are reminded to comply with the guidelines provided by the department. One way of doing this is by attending these training sessions aimed at educating, informing and updating operators of safe hygiene practices and disposal of waste to prevent the transmission of infections associated with these practices among other topics”, explained DEH Director, Richard Simms.

The Cosmetology Hygiene and Safety Training Courses has been designed especially for hairdressers, barbers, nail technicians, spa therapists, tattoo and body piercing technicians, and other personnel in the cosmetology industry. Registration is now open for the training sessions to be held on February 24th, March 16th and 30th, as well as May 11th and 25th, 2023 at the George Town Public Library.

The training focuses on sanitation, safe disposal of hazardous waste; equipment sterilization and disinfection; preventing the transmission of communicable diseases; and updating participants about updates to DEH guidelines for operating cosmetology-related establishments. This training is applicable to all new personnel working in the cosmetology industry and anyone whose certification has expired (Certification expires after 3 years).

The cost of registration is $15 per person and includes the cost of materials. Payment should be made at DEH headquarters, located at 580 North Sound Road, between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday. To register, please contact the DEH at 949-6696 or via email at [email protected].
