A forensic expert has determined that a gas leak caused a massive explosion that destroyed a Newlands home and damaged surrounding properties on 5 June.
David Schudel flew to the Cayman Islands from the United Kingdom to complete his investigation into the incident on Bayfield Crescent in which four people were injured.
He has delivered his report, a police press release said today, Thursday, 5 July, and officers are continuing their investigations.
Premier Wayne Panton, MP for Newlands, who visited the site with parliamentary secretary Heather Bodden after the incident, said, “It was a scary scene, reminiscent of a war zone.”
Meanwhile, Detective Superintendent Peter Lansdown previously told the Compass: “It was dramatic. It was extreme. Very fortunately, no one has died.”
