Cayman’s Pride Parade, now in its third year, is set to take place this Saturday starting at Public Beach, and participation will be free.

Governor Jane Owen is expected to lead the parade, together with Cayman LGBTQ Foundation founder Noel Cayasso-Smith.

Earlier this year Cayasso-Smith announced, in a Cayman Compass interview, that the decision was taken to make the parade free to the public after criticism last year when a registration price was introduced. There is also no need to pre-register for the event.

Cayasso-Smith, in an update on the parade route, said the event will start at 4pm and “we encourage everyone to be on time at the location no later than 3pm for the lineup”.

The parade assembles at Public Beach on West Bay Road and will head down the old West Bay Road, ending at Bevvy (in the former Margaritaville) for the after-party.

Attendance at the after-party will also be free, but food and drinks will be on sale at Bevvy, he said.

Cayasso-Smith, in the update, said the foundation will continue its no-alcohol policy in the parade as well as a dress code.

“You are allowed to design your own costumes but please keep in mind that if any committee member feels it is not appropriate you will not be allowed to join the parade. Suitable shorts, Pride T-shirts, Rainbow flags, and rainbow outfits with no private area exposed are suitable,” he added.

Kiki Coe, a Canadian drag performer, will be headlining the after-party, starting at 8:30pm at Bevvy.

Cayman’s pride events commenced with the raising of the pride flag on 3 June at Public Beach to mark the start of Pride Month.

On 15 July, the foundation held a Pride Rainbow Walk.

Close to 100 people took part in the 3-kilometre walk, which began and ended at Public Beach and raised funds for the foundation.
