Private healthcare provider Doctors Hospital has been given permission to construct a new oncology building at a cost of $5.5 million in George Town.

The Central Planning Authority approved an application for the 9,229-square-foot detached block for the treatment of cancer patients, following its 11 Oct. meeting.

It will be built at the site on the corner of Walkers Road and Middle Road and include 154 parking spaces, according to the meeting minutes, published on Thursday, 2 Nov.

In its assessment of the application, the Department of Planning suggested that the three parcels that the hospital sits on be combined into one ahead of the build.

“At the very least it would appear prudent to combine the parcel which contains the entrance/exit with the main parcel where the hospital is situated,” it said.

The authority agreed, and granted planning permission subject to 14 conditions, including the combination of the parcels.

Founded in 2000, Doctors Hospital is a provider of international-standard, private-sector hospital and healthcare services.

According to its website, the facility supports cancer patients with diagnosis, choice of therapy, medical and/or surgical treatment and post-therapeutic follow-up.

“Our ambition is nothing less than a cancer-free Cayman, which means the proactive prevention, detection, and treatment of cancer in our community,” it says.
