Ileann Powery, Miss Universe Cayman Islands, walked the international pageant’s stage for the National Costume Show on Thursday in an outfit inspired by and based on the islands’ rare pygmy blue butterfly.

Her green, gold and brown costume, with some highlights of blue, echoed the colours of the tiny butterfly, which at the size of a pinky fingernail, is considered to be among the world’s smallest.

The unique costume was designed by up-and-coming local designer Martina Bodden.

The finals of the competition, which will be held Saturday evening (18 Nov.) in San Salvador, can be watched live on the Miss Universe YouTube page.

Entrepreneur Powery, 25, of West Bay, who is a national volleyball player, is among 84 contestants vying to become Miss Universe 2023.
