As a result of the UK’s Framework for Fiscal Responsibility, the November deadline to strike a deal with China Harbour Engineering Company to build cruise berthing facilities in George Town was pushed back until 31 March, 2012.

In November, a Cayman delegation including Chamber of Commerce representatives took a fact-finding trip to Jamaica to view infrastructure projects under construction by China Harbour. In late November, the Chamber held a presentation where they issued a report containing their findings.

Cayman Enterprise City is still aiming to begin construction in the first quarter of 2012. Developers have identified the location of the future 500,000 square foot, low-rise business campus, but will only reveal that it is somewhere on the eastern sector of Grand Cayman.

The company has been hiring additional staff in preparation for the launching of the special economic zone.

Dr. Devi Shetty’s proposed medical tourism hospital is still in the works, as most of the enabling legislation has been put into place. The site of the planned health care city is on 600 acres of High Rock, formerly designated as the location for the now-scrapped East End Seaport.

The next step for the Narayana Cayman University Medical Centre is to secure planning permissions to build on the site.
