World-renowned Jamaican reggae artist, Glenroy ‘Ernie’ Anthony Smith is set to perform his timeless hits at the annual One Love: Legends of Reggae concert being held Saturday, 2 March from 7pm to 12am., at Coral Beach.
“We are thrilled to welcome Ernie Smith to Grand Cayman for the One Love: Legends of Reggae event,” said Jean Eric ‘Notch’ Smith, managing director of event organiser, YoungBlood Productions, in partnership with Monster Media. “It is truly an honour to host such a distinguished artist, and we look forward to an unforgettable night.
“Generations of Caymanians were raised on Ernie’s songs, including me. He was one of my dad’s favourite reggae artists and his songs and music still resonates with audiences of all ages.”
Born and raised in Jamaica, Smith is known for his deep and soulful baritone vocals and timeless hits, including ‘Life is Just for Living,’ ‘One Dream,’ and ‘Pitta Patta.’ Smith’s career has spanned five decades, and he has cemented himself as one of the genre’s most beloved figures.
He won the grand prize at the World Popular Song Festival in Tokyo in 1972, becoming the first Jamaican musician to win an international music award. In 1973, he also became the first musician to be honoured by the Jamaican government with the Badge of Honour for Meritorious Service in the field of popular music.
Fans of reggae will also get to enjoy a performance by Cayman’s own singer and recording artist, Notch, and his band LocalMotion 345.
Since 2018, the annual event has united local audiences in celebrating the rich heritage of reggae music and has featured performances by iconic artists such as Bob Marley’s legendary group, The Wailers, and Etana. The annual event is aimed at uniting local audiences through the universal language of music.
