On the heels of Earth Month, the 1st of May marked the launch of Sustainable Cayman’s
new podcast, Island Echoes, hosted by their Ambassadors, community leaders Al Ebanks
and Soleil Parkinson.
Island Echoes was born out of a discussion among the NPO’s Ambassadors. Host Al
recollects, “We brainstormed ways to halt Cayman’s history dissolving into mere echoes
as memories grew fainter, and realized a podcast would be an effective way to
highlight the importance of bridging the dynamic, historical divide to help chart our
future.”
The podcast promises to offer a deep dive into the cultural, environmental, and
political decisions that reverberate through the fabric of Caymanian society, some of
which have made Cayman what it is today, for better or worse.
In each episode, the hosts will cover a variety of topics that are central to the
long-term resilience of the Cayman Islands. Hosts and guest speakers of the podcast
seek to impart to listeners that having an understanding of Cayman’s history is
necessary for our generation to embrace sustainability and resourcefulness.
Episodes featuring topic experts, stakeholders, and community members will launch
monthly via the NPO’s YouTube and Spotify channels. Slated topics of discussion
include how plastics replaced thatch, and why we should treat mangrove wetlands like
infrastructure. The NPO encourages listeners to engage with them in these vital
conversations via their social media pages and by email.
Island Echoes Episode 1 is now live on Spotify! Podcast links will be posted to their
