Grand Cayman Distillery walked away with the top prize at the 2024 New York International spirit competition, winning the top distillery prize for the second year in a row.
Grand Cayman Distillery CEO Moises Sevilla, speaking with the Cayman Compass on Friday, said it was an honour to be recognised, and he was overjoyed with the results.
“It’s a little unreal honestly, especially because we competed on such a big stage. This is our second time in New York, and we also competed in London, where we grabbed some medals as well,” Sevilla said.
In addition to winning distillery of the year in New York, Sevilla said some of their signature products also took home medals, beating out hundreds of entries from around the world.
Zeus Gin won gold, its Three Islands Coffee Liqueur won silver, the Blue Iguana Gin won bronze and the Three Islands Triple Sec won bronze.
He said there were over 1,400 entries from over 39 countries, and the local products competed against brands such as Kahlua, Bacardi, Jameson, Uncle Nearest, Angels Envy and Glenlivet.
“We are honored to be globally recognized next to such amazing brands,” he said.
Sevilla said the distillery is planning on launching a rum line under the same Three Islands brand.
“We’re also going to be continuing that with toasted coconut rum. This is going to be vapor infused, all natural, so it’s not going to taste or smell like suntan lotion. It’s going to have that real coconut taste,” he said.
Following the competition, Sevilla said the focus will be taking the brands international.
“We want to put Cayman on the map. We want to distribute overseas. We have our sights set on New York to start, but we’re also wanting to distribute to London as well,” he said.
“We’re actually in negotiations with the company in Germany to get our rum out there. The sky’s the limit.”
He said he will be entering more competitions next year, and is proud to say that every product Grand Cayman Distillery has created is an international award winning creation.
