Nova Recruitment has completed the selection process for their fifth annual ‘Love Your Future’ Educational Grant. The $3,000 grant is offered annually to a local student who has impressed the Nova team with their passion and dedication to pursuing their chosen career. The individual who received this year’s grant is Leah Massally, a young Caymanian teacher pursuing her master’s degree in special education, with a specialisation in teaching students with blindness and visual impairment.
A few years ago, a child in one of Leah’s classes had a condition which affected his vision and caused blurry vision. She witnessed the profound effect that specialised support can have on a child with visual impairment, and it was this experience that ignited her passion to become a dedicated educator and advocate for students with visual impairments.
“I am thrilled to have been selected to receive the Nova grant. Not only will it ease my financial strain, it will also reinforce my commitment to making a difference in the lives of children with visual impairments,” explains Leah.
This summer, Leah will travel to Vancouver, Canada, for in-person studies at the University of British Columbia and to chaperone in a camp for teens with blindness and visual impairment to gain invaluable experience and skills to bring to her practice here in Cayman and further support our community.
Impressing the Nova Recruitment team, Leah stood out from the 50+ applicants received for the grant this year—the most ever received since the inaugural year.
“We had a high volume of very strong applicants this year, so it was a tough call to pick just one, but Leah’s passion for pursuing her career and drive to bring new skills back to impact the Cayman community really stood out to us,” explains Ariana Thompson, Nova Recruitment’s HR Apprentice.
The team had the difficult task of reviewing numerous impressive applicants for the scholarship, but from the very start, Leah’s passion and determination truly touched their hearts. Her exceptional drive and dedication deeply moved the Nova team, and they are incredibly excited to witness the wonderful accomplishments they know she will achieve.
The ‘Love Your Future’ Educational Grant selection process focused on the areas Nova Recruitment knows are vital to a successful career – ambition, passion, integrity, work ethic and self-reliance. These attributes shone through in Leah’s application video, essay, and final interview, proving she is proactive and conscientious.
“We were truly impressed by Leah’s dedication to pursuing a specialisation she’s passionate about, one where she can make a meaningful difference in our community. We’re thrilled to support her on her journey!” shares Jasmine Zerjal, Recruitment Consultant at Nova.
