The annual Meals on Wheels Turkey Trot took place Sunday afternoon with a good-sized crowd showing up at the Bayshore Mall in George Town for the one-mile race and the 5K walk and run.
It was Abraham Whittaker who came in first in the 5K, with 13-year-old Amelia Marriott taking home the prize for the first female across the finish line. Victoria Nolan won the child division (5-10 years old).
Meanwhile in the one-mile race, Matthew Harkness emerged as the winner.
Funds raised during the Turkey Trot will go to support the Meals on Wheels charity, which provides free, hot, nutritious meals to between 330 to 350 seniors, the homebound and disabled throughout the Cayman Islands, Monday to Friday, 52 weeks out of the year.
The charity has more than 130 volunteers. According to their website, “Isolation is a major issue for many seniors and the social contact provided by the volunteers offers some relief for these individuals.”
