Cayman still wonderful 10 years on

My wife Mary and I were a little apprehensive about our first visit to Cayman after a gap of 10 years. The shortness of our visit on the cruise ship Ambience did not help, nor the tales we had heard of all those cars, all the new buildings, all those changes. It would not be an exaggeration to say that we stepped ashore with not a little degree of trepidation.
And you know what? It was immediately blown away by the magic of the place and its people.
Somehow, and I know not why, it has managed to retain its distinctiveness, its allure – and the way people and place seem to blend almost in mythical fashion. Many of our friends we were unable to meet because of the shortness of our visit. Those we did meet made up for that in bucketloads with their empathy, love and commitment.
Thank you so much Cayman for remaining so magical and making us wonder why we ever left in the first place after 12 delightful years. Yes, there are problems to be solved, not least the cars and the cruise ships, but maintain your standards and solve them – you will in your own indefatigable way. You remain a wonderful place to be. Don’t you forget that.
