Blockchain Association of the Cayman Islands Announces First Ever On Chain Election

George Town, Cayman Islands — April 28, 2025 —
In a pioneering move for transparent governance, the Blockchain Association of the Cayman Islands (BACI) is proud to announce that it will conduct its 2025 Steering Committee election entirely on‑chain for the first time ever. This innovative approach introduces a secure, tamper‑proof digital ballot system designed to make voting simple, trustworthy, and accessible for all BACI corporate members.

Bringing Trust and Simplicity to Elections

Blockchain technology often seems complex, but in this case, it simply serves as a tamper‑proof online ballot box. Each corporate member will receive a unique Hat — facilitated by Hats Protocol — to cast a single vote. Votes will be fully public and recorded via the Snapshot platform, showcasing how blockchain technology can be utilized for transparent elections.

The entire process will be facilitated by Lemma, a Cayman Islands-based DAO services company, who will manage the full voting and election process.

  • Deputy Chair: Supports leadership initiatives and project execution.
  • Treasurer: Manages budgets, invoices, and sponsorship relationships.

  • Chair of Education & Regulation: Shares regulatory updates and industry insights.

Voting Process

Nominations for Steering Committee roles will be open for two weeks, allowing members to put forward candidates. Voting will then be conducted over a one-week period using members’ unique Hats on Snapshot. The results will be announced during the BACI Annual General Meeting (AGM).

Cayman as a Leading Jurisdiction

Petri Basson, Chairman of the Blockchain Association of the Cayman Islands, stated:

“As a leading jurisdiction for blockchain projects, it’s important that we don’t just advocate for the technology — we actively use it. By conducting our elections on-chain, we’re showing that we embrace the same innovations we promote. It’s a way to demonstrate our commitment to transparency, trust, and forward-thinking governance, both here in Cayman and to the wider global community.”

In this industry-leading move, BACI hopes to inspire other associations globally to adopt similar processes, bringing greater transparency to voting and committee composition through on‑chain solutions.
