As part of its 45th anniversary celebrations, the Pink Ladies Volunteer Corps has distributed $70,000 among 13 local charities.

At an event held on 10 Feb., some 70 members and guests gathered at Jasmine to watch as the Pink Ladies executive board members handed out the cheques and heard what the charities intend to do with the money.

Each year, the Pink Ladies raises funds through events such as a fashion show and a Christmas bazaar, which are then donated to a selection of charities.

Among the charities this year that received the funds were National Children’s Voluntary Organisation (NCVO), Acts of Random Kindness (ARK), The Pines, Special Olympics Cayman Islands, Inclusion Cayman, the Lighthouse School, Cayman Arts Festival (CayMusicA), YMCA, National Trust for the Cayman Islands, Autism Cayman, Cayman Community Farm, Meals on Wheels and Jasmine.

The event also enabled members to greet the new executive board as the past one has stepped down.

The Pink Ladies was set up in 1980 by Olive Miller and Evelyn Andresen, as a sorority of women who banded together to care for the ill, the aged and the children in the Cayman community. Over the years, the organisation has donated well over $2 million to local charities.
