Each year in March, Honouring Women Month (HWM) is set aside to shine a spotlight on the contributions of women across business, culture and community, as well as address the challenges they face in achieving gender equity.

Spearheaded by the Family Resource Centre (FRC), the month-long campaign features diverse programming designed to engage, inspire and empower. Local entrepreneurs, artisans and industry leaders take the stage in a variety of workshops and panel discussions, community showcases, cultural celebrations and youth engagement initiatives.

‘GIVE TO GAIN’

HWM events are linked to this year’s theme of International Women’s Day, ‘Give to Gain’. The theme underscores the idea that by giving time, resources and advocacy, women and girls gain greater opportunities and support.

More than just a celebration, HWM is a call to action. By addressing systemic barriers facing women, HWM encourages dialogue on such issues as workplace equity, representation, and social justice.

SIGNATURE EVENTS

Signature events include the International Women’s Day Gala and the popular Colour Me Purple 5K Fun Walk/Run. Last year’s run drew a record-breaking 500 participants. Among other events are workshops on agriculture and health, a STEM girls camp and a pop-up market featuring female-owned businesses.

Proceeds raised from HWM events go towards supporting the FRC’s Young Parent Services programme, which provides parenting support, life skills, and employability training to young parents.

BUILDING A LEGACY

Launched in Cayman in 1999, HWM coincides with International Women’s Day, a global event held annually on 8 March. Now in its 27th year, HWM continues to build a legacy of resilience and empowerment, creating pathways for women – and the community – to thrive.
