More than 70 people were caught speeding as police launched the first phase of the ‘Operation Clyro’ road safety campaign.
Between Friday and Monday, officers prosecuted over 90 persons for illegal tint, and over 70 persons for speeding. Police also observed and prosecuted a number of persons driving vehicles which were not properly licensed. The majority of prosecutions took place on Sunday, 29 March.
Police said, “One driver was recorded travelling at over the double the speed limit in a 40 mph zone, with a recorded speed of 84 mph. This driver will have to attend court and will likely lose their license for a minimum of 12 months.”
Over the course of the rest of the week, into Easter weekend police said they will continue to target speeders, drink drivers and other road users who engage in dangerous driving behaviours.

Surely the person doing 84 in a 40 will go to jail? To lose their license for a year isn’t much punishment. These are the kind of people who are going to kill and maim innocent road users. They should have been arrested and jailed immediately and their vehicle impounded for 60 days.
