The Cayman Islands Basketball Association has announced its national team rosters for a busy summer of basketball, with squads already departed for international competition.

A double-header of global tournaments awaits, featuring the senior men’s national team at the FIBA AmeriCup 2029 Pre-Qualifiers in Guyana from 8-12 July, alongside the men’s and women’s under-23 teams competing at the FIBA U23 3×3 Nations League Americas Conference in Ñuñoa, Chile, from June 27 to 3 July.

The spotlight shines on the 3×3 athletes who departed for Chile on Thursday, 25 June, to compete in the FIBA U23 3×3 Nations League.

The men’s 3×3 line-up features Bryan Ebanks-Perez, Nathaniel Anderson-Hurlston, Daric Ebanks, Lance Welcome, Jamie Stewart, and Xzavier Miller.

On the women’s 3×3 side, the roster includes Jamie Rankin-Maize, Ebony Thompson, Bethany Ebanks, and Soleya Manzanares.

Both under-23 squads will face off against elite basketball powerhouses such as the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, Argentina, and host nation Chile.

Also making up the Cayman contingent is Wendy Manzanares who takes the helm as the coach for the women’s squad, men’s coach Duran Whittaker and Kadane Hall who serves as the Cayman Islands Basketball Association’s 3×3 development manager.

“The FIBA U23 3×3 Nations League serves as a premier development competition, providing young athletes with valuable international experience while contributing to the growth of the fast-paced and exciting 3×3 format of basketball,” said the Cayman Islands Basketball Association.

FIBA AmeriCup Pre-Qualifiers

For the men’s national team, the road to the 2029 FIBA AmeriCup begins in Group B of the Pre-Qualifiers, where they will go head-to-head with Barbados, Grenada, Haiti, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Captain Shaad O’Garro will lead as captain of a 12-man squad that includes Justin Collins, Philip Webb, Davion Cotterell, Brad Lansdell, Nathaniel Hurlston-Anderson, Daniel Quinland, Griff MacDonald, Daric Ebanks, Alwin Buttrum, Alexander Thompson, and Xzavier Miller.

“The tournament represents an important step on the road toward qualification for the 2029 FIBA AmeriCup and provides Cayman’s athletes with the opportunity to compete at the highest level within the region,” said the Cayman Islands Basketball Association.

Collin Anglin, president of the Cayman Islands Basketball Association, expressed confidence in all three national teams and highlighted the significance of international competition for the continued advancement of basketball locally.

“These selections represent some of the finest basketball talent in the Cayman Islands with a blend of experienced veterans and emerging young talent. We are proud of the commitment, dedication, and hard work shown by these athletes and coaching staffs,” Anglin said.

“Competing internationally provides invaluable experience, helps develop our players, and strengthens our national programme as we continue building a basketball culture that all Caymanians can be proud of,” he concluded.
