Students make donation

The Department of Children and Family Services received $1,000 from the Cayman Islands Student Association.

The donation was part of CISA’s annual fundraising commitment towards the purchase of school supplies for needy children in the community, states a GIS press release.

Department Director Deanna Look Loy expressed her appreciation.

‘We are very thankful that CISA has continued its commitment to helping those students who might not otherwise be able to attain the basics for school,’ she said.

CISA’s donation was delayed due to Hurricane Ivan and was in monetary form as opposed to actual supplies. ‘We usually hold our annual school supply drive fundraiser by setting up booths at different locations around the island to collect donations such as backpacks, notebooks, pencils, pens, etc,’ said Mark Connolly, CISA President. ‘Because of Ivan, we were not able to do this in 2004 but we did not want to neglect our commitment to DCFS, so instead we decided to take the funds out of our budget. We hope to continue our fundraising efforts this year and offer a larger contribution.’
