Grand Old House Art comp.

There’s still time for artists to enter the Grand Old House’s Champagne and Wine Label Art Competition, but they’d better hurry because the deadline for entries is approaching fast.

The restaurant has held the wine-label competition twice before – in 2003 and 2004. This is the first time, however, for the champagne label, said Grand Old House’s Martin Richter.

The winning designs will be used to label the GOH’s private wine and champagne selection.

‘They’re very popular wines,’ said Mr. Richter.

The winning artists in each category receive CI$300 cash plus 24 bottles of the GOH private selection.

Second place in each category will receive a $100 gift certificate for the restaurant.

‘The Grand Old House is part of the community and we like to support local artists,’ Mr. Richter said. ‘We have a long-standing interest in supporting artists.’

The winning original piece of art for each category will become the property of the Grand Old House and be placed on permanent display in its wine room.

Other entries will be returned at the end of the competition.

Only original two-dimensional artwork depicting the Grand Old House is acceptable. Photographs are not acceptable, but any other medium of two-dimensional design is, in colour or in black and white.

‘People ask me what they should paint,’ said Mr. Richter. ‘I tell them they should paint the Grand Old House however they see it.’

The image size of the original should be proportionally sized for reduction to a 3-inch x 5.5-inch vertical format for the wine label and 5.5-inch x 3-inch horizontal format for the champagne label.

All entries must arrive framed and be signed by the artist, with his or her complete contact information on the back of the piece.

Artists may submit up to three entries per category.

Entries will only be accepted during the first week of June between the hours of 9am and 11am or between 5pm and 6pm, Mr. Richter said.

The artwork will be on display at the Grand Old House through 1 August.

A panel of judges selected by the Grand Old House will select the winner on 1 August.

Application forms are available at the National Gallery and further information can be obtained by calling Mr. Richter or Markus Meier at 949-9333 or by e-mailing: [email protected].
