Top-level investigators from St. James say they have made a major breakthrough in connection with the case of missing American national, Stephen King, as four persons have now been taken into custody for questioning.
The Government pathologist was called in Sunday night to conduct an on-the-spot post-mortem to determine the cause of death of a man whose body was found in a shallow grave off Home Hill Road in Ironshore, St. James. Following an identification process, investigators were to determine if the body was that of Mr. King.
Mr. King was last seen in the company of a female when they both checked in at a north coast hotel on Friday, May 13. At about 8:25 p.m. he reportedly left the hotel with the female companion in a rented Mitsubishi Lancer motor car. The woman returned alone about 8:10 a.m. the following morning and checked out of the hotel. Mr. King, who was scheduled to leave the island on May 16, has not been seen since.
A source told The Gleaner that the police contacted King’s family in the United States and they accessed his computer and traced correspondence to a woman in Jamaica through his email.
The investigators were then able to track her down and she and a male companion were picked up in St. Mary on Sunday. Bloodstains were reportedly found in the motor car in which the two were travelling.
The source said that the woman recently purchased more than $600,000 worth of building material from a popular hardware store in Montego Bay and had asked that they be delivered to a Flankers address.
