Annual cruise-passenger arrival figure for 2004 are down only 6.91 per cent on the previous year’s annual total despite no ships in October and a minimal number in September before the onslaught of Hurricane Ivan.
However, annual air arrivals for 2004 suffered more extensively from the effects of Hurricane Ivan.
The total number of air arrivals for 2004 was down 11.4 per cent on 2003’s equivalent figure.
Arrival figures for November and December have just been released for public viewing on the Department of Tourism’s Website, translating into yearly figures for 2004.
The annual figure for cruise arrivals for 2004 is 1.7 million (1,693,293 passengers), down 6.91 per cent on 2003’s yearly total of 1.8 million (1,818,979), and is up on the previous years of 1,574,750 (2002), 1,214,757 (2001), and 1,030,857 (2000).
The total number of air arrivals for 2004 was 259,929, down 11.4 per cent on 2003’s equivalent figure of 293,517. The 2004 figure is also down significantly on previous years figures of 302,797 (2002), 334,071 (2001), and 354,087 (2000).
November air arrivals were 4,215, down 81.5 per cent on 2003’s figure of 22,745.
December air-arrival figures of 11,201 are down 63.7 per cent on 2003’s figure of 30,848.
In cruise arrivals, November’s figure of 149,456 is not far behind 2003’s figure of 163,955 (down 8.84 per cent) and up on figures for 2000, 2001 and 2002.
December’s cruise-arrival figure of 191,281 is only down 7.5 per cent on 2003’s figure of 206,791 and well up on 2000, 2001 and 2002.
