Le Bleu gets by Ernst & Young

The Le Bleu Drinkers had all they could handle in Ernst & Young as they held off a late rally to earn their eighth win of the year, 15-9.

‘The game featured two teams with high BPG averages,’ said Drinker coach Alan Markoff. ‘We knew we’d have our hands full, and so did they.’

After falling behind 3-0 in the first inning, the Drinkers stormed back with two runs in the second and four in the third to take a 6-3 lead.

Le Bleu seemingly broke the game open with five runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to extend the lead to 13-3.

However Ernst & Young responded with a big six-run rally in the bottom of the sixth to narrow the gap to four.

Ernst & Young got a home run from Sharon MacIvor in the inning when she slapped a line drive by center fielder Stephen Ebanks.

‘She beat me like a dirty throw rug,’ said Ebanks. ‘That’s my kind of woman.’

Andy Fried capped off the inning for Ernst & Young with a long home run.

Le Bleu came right back with a pair of runs in the seventh inning to increase their lead to six, deflating the Ernst & Young comeback.

‘They were a good team to play,’ said Drinker catcher Laine Smyth. ‘Luckily we drank more ultra pure Le Bleu water than they did, which gave us a crystal clear advan-tage.’

Except for some difficulties in the sixth, the Drinker defence played one of its best games of the season, with William Foster especially shining in the field.

‘Did you see that float-and-throw he did on the double play?’ asked first baseman JB Lovinggood. ‘He reminded me of a bal-lerina with that one.’

Mark Wallace was back in fine form.

‘They don’t know who they’re messing with,’ he said right before popping out to lead off the game.

Wallace did, however, redeem himself with a pair of hits and two runs later in the game.

Foster hit a three-run homer and scored three runs, Lovinggood had three hits including a solo home run, and Markoff had three hits and drove in five runs to lead the Drinkers offensively.

The Drinkers wind up the regular season against first place Things Caymanians next Sunday before heading into the playoffs.
