Cayman Rugby Union President Derek Haines and Technical Director Richard Adams recently met with Charles Hall and Sarah Coombs of HSBC and agreed terms for a three year, five figure sponsorship deal deal.
The money will go directly to funding the start of a regular inter school rugby competition for Grand Cayman. Historically six schools have participated annually in inter school competition but the Rugby Union hopes to be able to increase this number to ten for the 2006 season.
HSBC who support education worldwide welcome the opportunity to be able to work with the Cayman Rugby Union in delivering sporting programs for both boys and girls in the extra curricular school environment.
Derek Haines is delighted with the arrangement.
‘Obviously I am very pleased that HSBC share in our long term goals for the sport within Cayman,’ said Haines. ‘I am a great believer in our youth getting involved in after school activities and I know that we offer a disciplined and well run program.’
Richard Adams added, ‘We have offered a strong program over the past few years for the nation’s youth. Recently we began a drive to raise more funds so that we can improve upon and increase the programs reach and effectiveness. HSBC have immediately come on board with a significant contribution and commitment offering us the opportunity to now develop these inter school matches with the necessary resources to facilitate an excellent competition. I am very grateful for their long term faith in the rugby community and hope that I will soon be hearing from other corporations along the similar avenues.’
HSBC CEO Charles Hall said the sponsorship deal underlined HSBC’s commitment to supporting and promoting the development of sports especially where it involves youngsters. Sport is a key area for developing a healthy and positive lifestyle.
