Radio stations Z99 and Rooster 101 collected more than $15,000 in just six hours for victims of Hurricane Katrina at Hurley’s Marketplace and Foster’s Food Fair on Saturday.
The stations were on location at the grocery stores soliciting donations on behalf of the American Red Cross.
Both grocery stores offered a $500 shopping spree to contributors. The winner of the Foster’s Food Fair shopping spree was Tammora Fisher and the winner of the Hurley’s Marketplace shopping spree was Shannon Seymour.
‘There are many people in Cayman who are still struggling to rebuild their own houses, their own lives, but they understand and empathize with the people of the Gulf States,’ commented Rooster 101’s afternoon host, Keith Michaels.
‘One gentleman that came with his donation remarked that he had lived at Mariner’s Cove and wondered at feeling fortunate in comparison to the death toll and turmoil over there. It was truly inspiring to see the people of Cayman giving so heartily.’
Those who still want to contribute can do so at any Bank of Butterfield location on KYD Account number 02-201-0371378 and US Account number 01-201-037138 throughout this week. Bank of Butterfield has waived the wire transfer fee to send the funds to the American Red Cross.
