To commemorate the events of last September, local photographer Courtney Platt will launch ‘Paradise Interrupted’, his new coffee table book, early this month. Through a poignant collection of images Courtney has created a photographic essay of Hurricane Ivan and captured the emotions felt by many of those who experienced the storm.
The 160-page hardcover book holds over 300 colour photographs, and has a
foreword by His Excellency the Governor, Mr Bruce Dinwiddy,, together with explanatory texts by Ms Joanna Lawrence, whose narrative lends personal experience in weathering the storm and the hardships of its immediate aftermath.
A renowned professional photographer, Courtney says, ‘Driven by a sense of the importance of the moment, I made extraordinary efforts to capture visible evidence of what happened island-wide during the days and weeks after the storm.’
Many of these photos appeared quickly on his website allowing concerned friends and families of local residents to track the recovery process.
The book is to be launched with a public book signing at the Cayman Islands National Gallery on Thursday, 8 September, from 5:00pm to 8:00pm.
