A group of ladies has organised a fundraising drive to collect clothes and shoes for Katrina victims in the US.

“So far the drive has been successful, and a lot of goods have been collected,” said Evelyn Walters, a member of the group.

‘We started calling up various churches around the island to assist but only about three churches responded so far,’ she said.

But despite the slow response, Ms Walters said the public has come forward with a large donation of goods. These are being collected by members of the Seventh Day and Pentecostal church.

So far other establishments have come through for the drive. Foster’s Food Fair Supermarket has donated a mini-warehouse in which the items can be stored until they are ready for shipping.

IMP has donated containers for the goods to be shipped to the US and Seaboard Marine has agreed to ship the items free of cost.

When the containers arrive in the US, Deluxe Freight will truck the items to a Seventh Day Adventist Church in Texas and from there the items will be distributed to the affected areas.

Anyone wishing to donate goods, especially children’s clothes and shoes, may do so by calling 917-4057, 927-0714 or 927-7508 and Sister Walters, Sister Gager or Sister Edwards will be happy to collect them from you.
