The Barefoot Man’s latest CD offering, Gone Coconutz, will amuse old listeners and surely add a few new ones to the army of Barefoot fans both here and abroad.
The 12-track CD bears all the hallmarks of the singer songwriter’s humorous topical and tropical ballads.
As Islands Magazine say’s ‘leave it to George Nowak, known as the Barefoot Man to write a humorous calypso about a hurricane and its devastation’.
After Ivan passed, Barefoot went to see what was left of his beach house. When he saw the destruction and rubble the first thing he said was there’s a song there. Wasting little time he penned Ivan, a funny, up-tempo calypso that had the island laughing at a time when a strong prescription of relief and laughter was just what was needed.
The songs Ivan and Susan Watson’s Ivan Come to Cayman were released as a CD single last November and sold-out, with CI$5,000 going to the National Recovery Fund.
Barefoot’s latest CD includes Ivan, along with My Insurance Man – a song that’s sure to strike a few sour notes with local insurance companies, while bringing on some wry smiles from those suffered through the storm.
In Manure Happens, the irrepressible Barefoot reminds listeners that life in paradise isn’t always perfect. And just when you think you know what you are getting Barefoot mixes it up a bit by blending musical genres in You Used to Cal Me Homey but Now You Call Me George by skipping segueing from Reggae into Calypso while throwing a touch of Nashville in for good measure.
Music lovers can catch The Barefoot Man with Chuck Quappe during their live dinner-dance set at the Reef Resort each week.
