Boatswain’s Beach after hours

Boatswain’s Beach is now officially the home of the newly relocated Cayman Turtle Farm.

Minister Charles Clifford, in his responsibility for commerce and tourism officially opened the first phase of Boatswain’s Beach to the public Thursday evening at the Business After Hours event held at the new facility.

Guests gathered for drinks, canapés and a tour of the new state of the art site, including the new Turtle Crawl Deli, retail shop, reception building and turtle tanks. There is also a huge and impressive turtle breeding pond.

Describing the park as incredible, Mr. Clifford spoke of its unique architecture, which showcases the style and features of the old Caymanian catboats, which merges the Cayman Islands of yesteryear and today.

Mr. Clifford spoke of Boatswain’s Beach as a research park, an advocate for preservation and culture, the only provider of one of the Cayman Islands’ main food staples as well as a theme park.

He said the park is set to become the major tourist attraction of the Cayman Islands.

The park’s superior facilities will make it a must see for tourists visiting, and for repeat visitors Boatswain’s Beach will be the most exciting feature of their next vacation here, he said.

In spring 2006 the second phase of Boatswain’s Beach will open, boasting a 1.3 million gallon salt water lagoon, a predator tank, two more restaurants; including fine dining, a free-flight bird aviary, and a historic Caymanian street with authentic porch side artisans.

President of the Chamber of Commerce Joseph Hew said the Cayman Turtle Farm has been a loyal member of the Chamber of Commerce for many years and he spoke of the importance of the new facility in terms of conservation, education and tourism.

Managing Director Boatswain’s Beach, Kenneth Hydes thanked those who helped bring the concept of Boatswain’s Beach to reality.
