Putting artists on the map

A winding cultural experience embracing private studios, painters, sculptors, thatch weavers and others active in the arts on Grand Cayman is to come under the spotlight in another ‘Artists’ Trail’ publication.

All artists are encouraged to submit information as soon as possible for inclusion.

In a joint effort, the National Gallery and the Department of Tourism will be producing the second printing of this map-format publication which pinpoints locations of local artists and galleries for the benefit of tourists and residents alike.

Described by National Gallery Director Nancy Bernard as ‘a fun and culturally stimulating way to explore Grand Cayman’, this colourful and informative map will allow visitors to take tours that are out of the ordinary, and to see Cayman through the eyes of the artists.

Scheduled for November, the map will be available at hotels, condominums, various DoT outlets, as well as at the National Gallery.

It will list art shops, galleries, and artists’ contact numbers to ensure that tourists can make contact, visit the artists and view and purchase works.

Any artist interested in being featured on the map should submit their name, contact number, and address and studio hours. A note should be made if studio visits are only available upon appointment.

Information should be sent to Gallery Intern Letitia Davis.

These details may be delivered in person at the National Gallery on the waterfront, or e-mailed to [email protected].
