A date and venue has been confirmed for the forthcoming Miss Cayman Islands Pageant.
Committee Chairman Ms Lynne Whittaker was able to confirm at a cocktail reception held at The Wharf that the pageant is to take place at The Lions Centre 28 January.
The informal gathering Wednesday night consisted of committee members, previous contestants and Miss Cayman Islands winners, as well as prospective sponsors.
‘So far we already have five applications for this year’s contest. We hope to attract more contestants by holding this gathering where they have the opportunity to discuss the pageant informally,’ she said.
The 14-member committee includes seven new members. When asked how long the term of office was for committee members, Ms Whittaker was unable to give a precise figure, but said that it is normally around four years.
Commenting on the reasons behind the recruitment of new committee members, Ms Whittaker added; ‘Some committee members are only able to commit to a year or so as it is only on a voluntary basis.’
Ms Whittaker was able to confirm the winner would be entered into the Miss Universe pageant, to be held around May and Miss World to be held sometime between November and December 2006.
Ms Whittaker was also able to confirm there are no sponsors, however hoped that the event held at the Wharf would help recruit sponsors. Sponsorship costs $3,500, which goes toward the contestant’s wardrobe, grooming and preparation costs leading up to the pageant.
Ms Whittaker added that she hoped to recruit around eight sponsors, one for each contestant.
