School traffic zones slated

The establishment of 15-mile-per-hour school zones for vehicles is one of the amendments to the Traffic Law the Government plans to make in the future, Minister Arden McLean said Friday.

‘We need to reduce the speed limit around schools,’ he said, adding that the measure was important to keep the children safe.

Mr. McLean said another amendment to the Traffic Law would make it mandatory for a person involved in a fatal vehicular accident to be tested for alcohol consumption.

‘Currently, a police officer can use his discretion on whether to test someone when death occurs,’ said Mr. McLean. ‘It’s going to become mandatory.

Mr. McLean said that the Government is also planning an amendment to the Traffic Law with regard to the enforcement of disabled parking spaces.

‘The amendment to the law will be brought to the House hopefully by the next meeting of the Legislative Assembly,’ he said.
