Cayman HospiceCare is wrapping things up for Christmas with a seasonal fundraiser at the Book Nook in Galleria Plaza, starting 15 December.
The hospice’s annual Christmas gift wrapping will be held 15-17 and 22-24 December, from 10am to 6pm.
The Book Nook will be sending its customers to HospiceCare volunteers, who will be stationed outside the store, to wrap their purchases for a donation, according to Jennifer McCarthy, the hospice’s fundraising coordinator.
‘This is a huge project. It takes about 100 volunteers over the six days. We are always looking for more volunteers,’ she said.
Each wrapper will work a two-hour shift, she added.
As in previous years, she hopes the event will promote good will and better awareness and understanding of the hospice.
Cayman HospiceCare is a non-profit organisation that offers palliative care for people with life-threatening illnesses. All of the services the hospice provides are free.
The hospice therefore relies heavily on donations and funds collected through special events to stay up and running.
Other stores at the Galleria are invited to send their customers over to the hospice wrappers as well.
‘The closer it gets to Christmas, the more fun it is. There is always a mad dash with people needing gifts wrapped,’ Mrs. McCarthy said.
She encourages people to come out and help the hospice this Christmas.
‘This is a great way to get out in the community and do some charity work, to embrace the spirit of the season,’ Mrs. McCarthy said.
