Busy Christmas for stay-over tourism

Grand Cayman has a wonderful Christmas gift to enjoy – plenty of tourists – with hotels and condos reporting very high occupancy levels over the holiday season and into January 2006.

The Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort was booked up for the period 26 to 30 December and other dates in December are in the high 90 per cent for occupancy. January is also looking very strong for the newly renovated property.

The newly opened Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman is pretty much fully committed for the first quarter of 2006, although there is always the chance for cancellations and last minute windows of opportunity for those wishing to book.

For holiday 2005, there are 173 rooms available and they are sold out. They were all full by 26 December.

The Westin Casuarina Resort is fully booked the week between Christmas and New Year and bookings are looking heavy for the first quarter of 2006, a big part of which is due to corporate incentive group bookings.

The Westin Casuarina Resort has had very strong business from recent events such as the Jazz Fest and a captive insurance conference.

The Hyatt Beach Suites are a full house the week between 26 December and New Year and overall December has been good, with 75 per cent occupancy. January is also looking solid for bookings and the hotel is also expecting last minute bookings especially for February.

Condominiums are also well booked for the holiday season.

Lacovia Condominiums are totally sold out for the Christmas period.

At Casa Caribe Condos the week of December 26 to New Year is fully booked out. Bookings for 2006 are also looking good.

Plantana Condominiums are looking busier for high season than they have for the past two years and were booked up a year in advance for the week of December 26 to New Year. February and March 2006 are busy.

Recent Department of Tourism projections pointed to 81 per cent of pre-Ivan rooms being available by December. The projection for March is 93 per cent.
