Speak up on the bill of rights

The recent gay cruise ship and the 2003 status grants were both decisions taken in part on the grounds of concern for human rights (I take no point on the desirability or otherwise of these decisions). However, they show us how human rights can and do affect life in the Cayman Islands.

Cayman will shortly have a bill of rights as part of our new constitution. Now is the time to consider what should and should not be included in that bill of rights and how we can ensure that it reflects the Caymanian way of life.

We all must take part in this discussion and speak out for what we believe in, especially to our MLAs.

If we are apathetic then many more areas of Caymanian life will be changed in the name of human rights.
